The GALILEE QUARTET
10 NOVEMBER AT 5 PM, IN THE CHURCH OF Saint-Sulpice in Le Bugue
Who are they?
The Galilee Quartet (the Saad family) is a Palestinian quartet made up of four brothers and sisters born in Nazareth and brought up in their home in Maghar in Galilee: Omar - viola/Arabic percussion, Mostafa - 1st violin/oud, Tibah - cello/vocals, and Gandhi - 2nd violin/vocals.
They played music together until the end of 2014, when they were separated for the first time due to Omar's imprisonment for refusing to serve in the Israeli army. After his release in June 2015, Omar left to study in Italy, while his brothers and sisters were in different countries studying music. In 2021, Mostafa, Tibah and Gandhi met up again to study for their master's degrees in Italy. Omar joined them in 2022, and they re-formed the Quartet full-time, studying with the famous Quartetto di Cremona at the Stauffer Centre for Strings in Cremona. Known for the diversity and richness of its repertoire, which includes Western classical music, Arabic music and original works by Mostafa and Gandhi that reflect the influences of East and West, the Galilee Quartet is currently studying with Miguel da Silva in Paris. Associated with the Ensemble Music Academies of Palestine and Le Dimore del Quartetto, the Quartet is also an ambassador for the Mariam Foundation in the fight against cancer.
